RCSS Leaders Meet With Regime In Naypyidaw

Sai Hseng Leng/SHAN - Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS) leader Gen Yawd Serk met with regime leaders for another round of so-called peace talks in the nation’s capital Naypyidaw on Tuesday.

“We want to have peace for our people,” said RCSS spokesperson Lt- Col Oum Khur, which was one of the first issues discussed with Lt-Gen Yar Pyae, the chair of the regime’s National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC). The people of Shan State have

suffered a lot during the years of conflict, the Shan spokesperson explained. The second topic was federalism, including the right to self-determination, and the third was regional development.

“The first thing we want to do is to end the armed conflict in Shan State and then clear up the misunderstandings between the EAOs (ethnic armed organisations) and the government and between the EAOs themselves,” he told SHAN.

Besides Yawd Serk, other RCSS representatives were Col Soung Harn, Oum Khur, who are members of the central executive committee, Maj Nan Moe Moe Saw and Maj Nan San Hpoung, from the central committee members, and other members of the armed group.

The meetings, which is over three days ends today, 26 January.
