Puppha Hongsar Foundation to Offer Free Summer Mon Literature Classes for Grades 5–11

The Puppha Hongsar Foundation for Education will open free summer Mon literature classes for students from Grade 5 to Grade 11 in Thanbyuzayat Township, Mon State, beginning March 8, according to foundation officials.

The classes will be held at the foundation’s school on Kyant Khaing Yay Road in Kyonkayoke Village, Thanbyuzayat.

An official from the Puppha Hongsar Foundation for Education said students in Grades 5 to 9 will be grouped together, while Grades 10 and 11 will be taught separately due to differences in Mon language proficiency.

“The course will primarily focus on Mon language studies. Computer and English lessons will also be included to increase students’ interest and broaden their skills,” the official said.

The two-month program will cover Mon literature from basic to advanced levels, aiming to improve students’ reading, writing, and speaking abilities.

Application forms will be available starting at 9 a.m. on February 28 at the foundation’s school in Kyonkayoke Village. Enrollment is limited to a maximum of 120 students, and applicants are encouraged to register early.

“We have capped enrollment because the classes will be held in a newly constructed school building that is not yet fully completed. There will be four classrooms and one main hall, so we can only accept between 100 and 120 students, depending on available space,” the official said.

The Puppha Hongsar Foundation for Education is a local organization that regularly provides free summer courses and educational programs aimed at promoting Mon literature and supporting Mon national education.

In January, the foundation signed a memorandum of understanding with education departments and colleges under Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University to provide scholarship opportunities for Mon students facing barriers to accessing higher education, according to officials.
