There is no one willing to serve as administrator of the military council in 30 villages of Belin Township’s 58 villages, the chairman of KNU’s Alliance Supervisory Committee told Than Lwin Times.
After the military coup, the administrators were warned to resign by the revolutionary forces, and because they were shot dead if they acted as military informants, there were fewer people who would take on the role of administrators.
There are no junta-appointed administrators in about 30 villages, including Shwe Yaung Pya, Khemauk, Win Pyan, Thabyay Ni, Alu Lay, A Lu Gyi, Naungkatoke, Win Tar Pan, Laykay, Karawayseik and Phoe Wah Thein on upper Yangon-Mawlamyine Road in Belin.
The members of the Karen National Union (KNU) administration currently administer the villages where there are no head of communities, the chairman of KNU’s Alliance Supervisory Committee said.
A former administrator told Than Lwin Times that he resigned because he did not dare to assume the role of head of the community due to the current political situation.
Those who did not want to serve as military council’s administrators submitted their resignation letters to the Beilin Township General Administration Department, but they were not allowed to resign. And later, they were no longer associated with the office.
At least 10 administrators or community elders of the military council were assassinated in Belin after the coup.
