NMSP says it agrees with junter leader for equality and self-determination

The New Mon State Party (NMSP) spokesperson Nai Aung Ma nge told Than Lwin Times that an agreement was reached with the coup leader, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, for national equality and ethnic self-determination.

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and a delegation led by NMSP Vice-Chairman Nai Aung Min met for nearly two hours in Nay Pyi Taw on May 23 for peace talks.

Nai Aung Min said that during the talks, an agreement was reached to draft a separate state constitution for equality and self-determination, including the drafting of a future federal constitution.

“The military leader has strongly accepted equality and self-determination,” said Nai Aung Ma Nge, a spokesperson for the NMSP.

During the meeting, the NMSP offered the coup leader, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, with three recommendations for resolving the current political issue.

The NMSP recommends that, in addition to the 10 ethnic armed groups present at the peace talks, hold free and open dialogue with other armed groups at home or abroad and find a way to meet with all political parties.

The NMSP also advised military leader Min Aung Hlaing to meet with all parties who should be involved in , and find a solution for current political conflict.

However, Nai Aung Ma Nge said that with two days left in the talks, it remains to be seen whether the peace talks will be successful.

The National Solidarity and Peace Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) will discuss the details of the process on May 24 and 25, based on discussions with the military leadership.

The NMSP is an ethnic armed group that signed the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) during the NLD government.

The NMSP has drawn controversy and criticism from the Mon people for attending the peace talks invited by the military council.
