Ethnic leaders from the Dialogue for Political Negotiation (DPN) and the Co-ordination Team (CT) met in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand on 12 and 13 September to continue implementing the peace process.

The DPN and the CT were formed at the ethnic armed organisation (EAO) summit held at Mai Ja Yang in Kachin State from 26 to 30 July. They were formed to execute decisions reached by the EAO summit.

Delegates at the meeting were due to review the Framework for Political Dialogue and hold discussions about the Panglong Handbook; basic policies that need be included in the federal union and constitution; basic policies for national defence and security and the Tatmadaw’s (Burma Army’s) federal union policies.

Pado Saw Kwel Htoo Win, the leader of the CT delegation said to reporters: “We will discuss how we have implemented the decisions set down at the last meeting. Another thing is to review the 21st Century Panglong Conference. The important issue is how we will continue this process.”

This was the second meeting of the two groups. The 10-person DNP delegation was led by Khu Oo Reh and Pado Saw Kwel Htoo Win led the 9-person CT delegation.
