NLD Chair U Kyaw Moe Aye faces a warrant for his arrest

U Kyaw Moe Aye, Chair  of the National League for Democracy ( NLD) in Ye Township, Mon State , is facing  an arrest warrant issued by a State court.

U Kyaw Moe Aye, the son of U Myint Aye, is a resident of Yan Gyi Aung ward in Ye Township.  An  arrest warrant was issued for him based on charges of absconding while being prosecuted under Section 505-A, reported an official from the Ye Township Police Station.

"He had an arrest warrant issued because he had absconded  from prosecution under Section 505-A. He is not alone. They are preparing 505 warrants for other people. The court will proceed whether the houses and property of Kyaw Moe Aye are closed or not," said the official.

The warrant states that U Kyaw Moe Aye must defend himself against the charges within 30 days or his property will be confiscated.

On October 13, 2021, the Tatmadaw already confiscated timber from a shop owned by U Kyaw Moe Aye's daughter, and his house has been under surveillance, according to the source close to U Kyaw Moe Aye.

U Kyaw Moe Aye and his family have been on the run since October, and Aye's brother remains in custody.

The NLD announced on January 1 that 649 members of the National League for Democracy ( NLD) had been arrested within 10 months of the military coup .
