NHRC advises action to be taken against those who killed taxi driver

National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) sent a letter to the concerned ministry in relation to taking action against police personnel who beat a taxi driver to death in police custody.

NHRC issued a statement after investigating the case including meeting family members of the victim, persons who stayed with the victim in police lockup, and responsible police personnel in Thanlyin Myoma police station.

The victim Aung Aung (28) was arrested along with two passengers who stole a battery, on September 12 he died on September 26.

Family members of the victim lodged a complaint to the NHRC and accused police personnel of torturing the victim in police custody during the investigation of the case.

The NHRC also suggested taking lessons from the case to avoid such tragic events in the future.
