Newly appointed Mon State Border and Security Affairs Minister by Mon State Legislative Assembly, Col. Nay Htut Oo, said that he would emphasize a better future for youth in Mon State.
The new minister was speaking to the press after an emergency session of the Mon State Legislative Assembly convened November 16.
“As soon as I arrived here I found that drug abuse by youths is endemic. The youths who will shoulder the tasks of the State are trapped in this menace. Not only our country but also the whole world is working for the suppression and eradication of this drug abuse and menace. We will fight against all law breakers. Participation of the people is crucial in this fight. We need to do awareness and education campaigns among the youths widely on this drug menace and drug abuse,” Col. Nay Htut Oo said.
In addition he pointed to the danger posed by people not driving properly.
“Many precious lives have been lost because of non-compliance of traffic rules. The vehicles jumpthe red light even in the night time when the traffic volume is low. The pedestrians also cross the road while the zebra crossing traffic light is red. We need to launch education and awareness campaigns of traffic rules among the people too,” the new minister said.
Concerning with ethnic armed organizations, he would stand continually in accordance with the terms and conditions expressed in the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA), he added.
On that day, the emergency session of Mon State Assembly approved the appointments of new a Mon State Border and Security Affairs Minister and new legislator Maj. Nay Myo Tun.
Former Mon State government Border and Security Affairs Minister Col. Win Naing Oo was replaced by the new appointee.
Former minister Col. Win Naing Oo was appointed in August 2015 but has now retired.
