More internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Injangyang Township and other areas have arrived at Maina Catholic IDP camp in Waingmaw Township, Kachin State due to the clashes between the Tatmadaw and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA).
The camp’s in-charge U Gwan Seng said the IDP camp was not prepared when the new IDPs arrived on April 27 so the camp is facing difficulties due to lack of accommodation, food, budget, water, and toilets.
“The IDPs increased unexpectedly. No aids have been received so far. No organizations have come. The IDPs are facing difficulties with their living and they need stationery for the children who are attending school, houses, water, and toilets,” he said.
A total of 188 people from 36 households have arrived in Maina Catholic IDP camp at the end of April.
The Kachin Baptist Convention (KBC) IDP camp has also received new IDPs.
U Nar Par, an IDP, said the IDPs had to abandon all of their properties as they had to flee for their lives.
“Military offensives were launched. We could hear the gunfire near us. That’s why we fled for our lives. Now, we have nothing. We are old,” he said.
Another IDP urged the armies that are involved in the fighting to stop causing grievances to the public and restricting them.
Thousands of IDPs are living at two Maina IDP camps after fighting resumed in the Kachin State in 2011.
