Nearly 150 Rohingya Individuals Arrested in Thanphyuzayat Township

Near Wekami and Ywatayar villages  in Thanphyuzayat Township, Mon State, 145 undocumented Rohingya individuals were apprehended.

On the morning of August 11th, a group of Rohingyas being transported from Ye Township to Thanphyuzayat in 4 land vehicles were stopped and arrested by the authorities near Ywatayar village on the Ye-Thanphyuzayat highway.

Based on information from an individual familiar with the security forces, the group of detained illegal Rohingyas included 127 males and 18 females.

“The investigation uncovered that they departed from a refugee camp in Bangladesh by boat. They were apprehended upon reaching Thanphyuzayat township, specifically Thabyaychaungwa, transported initially by boat and subsequently by land vehicles," he added

The undocumented Rohingyas are being temporarily held at the township stadium in Satthint Ward, Thanphyuzayat Township.  The owner of the vehicle transporting the group is currently under investigation.

In 2023,over 500 undocumented Rohingya community members were arrested in townships like Thanphyuzayat, Mudon, and Mawlamyine within Mon State.

Since the military coup, there have been frequent arrests of undocumented Rohingya persons taking place across the country, including Mon State. Some members of this community have even been killed on the street without any consequences.
