Myanmar stadiums to transfer into polling stations

Union Election Commission (UEC) member Myint Naing said that the commission has arranged to transform stadiums to polling stations for the 2020 general election to be held on November 8.

“We shall select some stadiums to be used as polling stations on the polling date for accommodating more people at such places,” he said.

He said this in the online meeting on preparations being conducted for holding a successful general election during a period when the authorities may still be seeking to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This online meeting was attended by Union Minister of Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population Thein Swe, UEC member Myint Naing, and Deputy Director General of General Administration Department (GAD) Htet Aung.

Under the containing and preventing guidelines and restrictions for COVID-19 pandemic, 6-foot social distancing must be maintained in public places. It was therefore decided that the transforming of stadiums to polling stations offered the space to help fulfill these requirements.
