After junta-backed militia members were attacked in Paung Township, Mon State, the military council has tightened security throughout the town and is continuing to arrest some residents, the locals told Than Lwin Times.

The military council has beefed up security in the township and continued to make arrests after an unknown armed group attacked three militia members hiding in Kywegyan village, Paung Township, killing one militia leader on the spot and seriously injuring two others on September 6.

After the attack, the military council immediately arrested a man from a house near where the incident happened, without any reason, and ransacked the houses in some neighborhoods en masse.

Currently, the military council is searching the homes of people who are acquainted with the arrested locals and arresting them, so some of them are fleeing in fear, said a local.

In addition, on the night of September 12, a 40-year-old man from Kywegyan village was arrested by military council forces.

The military council has also deployed secretly in at least ten locations on the Kalama Hills in Paung Township.
