More than 120 civilian houses, vehicles, buildings, and other properties were damaged in Karenni State during the month of May due to destruction caused by the military junta, according to records released by the Karenni Human Rights Group (KnHRG).

Among the more than 120 destroyed buildings and properties were 96 houses, one religious building, one school, five public-use buildings, and 17 vehicles. Of these damages, 85 houses and 16 vehicles were destroyed by fire.

A KnHRG official told  Kantarawaddy Times that, according to the data, the majority of the destroyed homes and properties were in Hpruso Township.

“In May alone, more than 106 buildings and properties were destroyed by arson in Hpruso Township,” a KnHRG official said.

On May 8, at around 2:00 p.m., junta troops arrived at a displacement camp in Hpruso Township and set fire to shelters and vehicles.

Displaced civilians also reported that, in addition to burning homes, junta soldiers arrested and beat those who were unable to flee in time.

According to KnHRG’s monthly report, military operations carried out by junta forces in Hpruso Township during May forced approximately 140 households, and around 7,000 people, to flee and relocate.

Furthermore, in recent days, continuous drone surveillance conducted over villages in Hpruso Township has also forced more than 200 villagers to flee their homes.
