Over 1,000 local residents have been promptly evacuated to safe places due to flooding of Kadak Creek in Mon State's Kyaikto Township caused by heavy rainfall, according to the locals and rescue teams.

Heavy rains have overflowed the Kadek River and inundated six neighborhoods, including Zeyar Mon, Kaw San Naing, Taungthu Su, Northern Ward, and Aye Yeik Nyein, since the afternoon of October 8.

More than 1,000 flood victims have been rescued in urgently-established temporary relief camps at five monasteries.

An official of the social relief organization told Than Lwin Times that drinking water and basic food are currently needed for the flood-affected people.

The Yangon-Mawlamyine road in front of the Kyaikto Court in Aye Yeik Nyein Ward got submerged on October 9, and traffic was temporarily halted due to rising water levels. On October 8, landslides occurred near milepost No. 7 of Kyaikhtiro mountain road after heavy rains.

Floods caused families to relocate in Kyaikto Township in August, and this is the second flooding of the year.

More than 10,000 local residents have been affected by floods in Bago since October 8.
