Monks and nuns arrested after explosion in monastery compound

On September 12, a bomb blast rocked the compound of Zeya Theikdi monastery, East Ngawan Kyun Thar on Mingyi road in Pathein township, Ayeyarwady region and some monks and nuns were reportedly arrested.

The blast occurred when four members of the People’s Defence Force in Pathein were testing explosives in the monastery compound, all four escaped.

"It exploded while testing explosives. We did not bomb the monastery. The military council said one person had been arrested with several injuries. It was not a member of our group. Four members of our group were injured. But no one was arrested. I feel sorry for those who were arrested,” said a member of the Pathein PDF.

Those arrested are being investigated at the police station in Pathein township, according to locals.
