The Mon Unity Party (MUP) will field 38 parliamentary candidates in the upcoming election organized by the military junta, according to party leaders.

Mon State has a total of 45 constituencies. The party plans to contest seven out of ten constituencies for the People’s Assembly (Pyithu Hluttaw), excluding Kyaikto, Bilin, and Thaton townships.

For the National Assembly (Amyotha Hluttaw), MUP will field six candidates under the first-past-the-post system and another six under the proportional representation (PR) system.

“In the State Assembly’s 20 constituencies, we will contest in Kyaikto and Thaton, but we decided not to compete in Bilin Township,” said a party official.

The MUP will field nine candidates under the first-past-the-post system and ten under the PR system for the State Assembly. However, the party will not contest in three ethnic constituencies in Mon State.

According to the election commission, the first phase of the general election is scheduled to take place on December 28, 2025, in five townships: Kyaikto, Thaton, Mawlamyine, Chaungzon, and Kyaikmaraw.

Nine political parties will take part in the election in Mon State, including the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), National Unity Party (NUP), People’s Pioneer Party (PPP), National Interest Development Party, Myanmar Farmers Development Party, Shan Nationalities Democratic Party (White Tiger Party), People’s Party, Mon Unity Party (MUP), and Pa-O National Development and Progress Party.

According to the Union Election Commission (UEC), a total of 256 candidates, including representatives from the nine parties and one independent candidate, will contest in Mon State.
