The Mon State’s Military Council is reportedly attempting to secure the security of their offices by providing limited amounts of arms to departmental staff in areas where severe fighting is common.

The state authorities had an emergency closed-door meeting last week.

A head of the department, who did not want to be named, said that during the meeting, they roughly discussed providing weapons to the employees and working with the soldiers and police for the security of the department.

However, the plan was only verbally agreed upon and they have not decided when it will be implemented.

It is reported that the closed-door meeting was attended by military officers, heads of the General Administration Departments, police chiefs, senior officials from the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), and administrative officials.

According to a non-CDM staff member from Ye Township, there were disagreements among the staff after it was revealed that arms would be provided for office security.

However, the relevant townships have not been officially notified of the directive, he said.

In Mon State, there are frequent explosions and attacks at the regime offices.

On August 3, three people, including a deputy immigration officer, were killed and one was injured, in an attack by the Ye Balu resistance group on the immigration office in Ye township.
