A caterer was sentenced to seven years in prison on Thursday for throwing hot water on a teenage employee in retaliation for an alleged theft.
The Mawlamyine Township Court convicted Daw Aye Aye Soe of intentionally causing injury, according to Daw Yin Min San, a high court lawyer.
Daw Aye Aye Soe, a contracted caterer for Mawlamyine University, faced charges for an incident last December when she punished her 14-year-old employee for allegedly stealing two oranges.
She was convicted under sections 323 and 326 of the penal code, and given seven years for the first charge, and an additional year for the second.
She will serve out the prison terms concurrently, Mawlamyine Township Court Judge U Soe Min said.
