Two vacant MP positions—including the security and border affairs minister—are expected to be appointed.
The Mon State parliament will hold an emergency meeting on Friday to replace two empty seats, the deputy speaker said.
The positions up for grabs are both are reserved for the military and include one MP and a state security and border affairs minister.
“There is no other issue,” Dr. Aung Naing Oo, the Mon State parliament’s deputy speaker, said about why the meeting will be held.
The military will appoint people to the position. Since it is an “emergency meeting,” there will be no session for questions, proposals, or other issues. If no one objects, the parliament will approve the army’s choices and they will swear an oath.
There are total of 31 parliamentarians serving in the Mon State legislature including 19 National League for Democracy MPs, two Mon National Party MPs, one All Mon Region Democracy Party MP, one Union Solidarity and Development Party MP and eight military MPs.
