The State Counsellor told the state governments to complete their jobs, and for people to work hard under the law.

Mon people raised concerns about infrastructure—including poor transportation and electricity access—and a lack of drinking water in a public meeting with State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi on Thursday in Mawlamyine,

Held at the state hall in the Mon State capital, some 1,500 people attended, including parliamentarians, government staff, and locals.

People were told to send letters to respective government officials, and to directly report their challenges to them.

The State Counsellor also said that the state and regional governments must carry out their duties.

“If we want to build a democratic federal union, state and regional government must complete their jobs,” Daw Aung San Suu Kyi said the meeting. She also said that people “must work hard under the law” if they want to “restore democracy” and should not solely depend on the central government.

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi arrived in Mon State on April 4 and visited Mawlamyine public hospital and Kyeik Tha Lan pagoda.

The State Counsellor was also scheduled to meet locals in Thaton town on Friday.
