Mindat Town Landmine Blast Injures Two

A man had to have a leg amputated and another was seriously injured when a landmine exploded in the central part of Chin State’s Mindat Town on 27 July 2025.

A Mindat Town resident said to Chin World: “One of them lost a leg, and there’s a chance the other leg might have to be amputated too. The other person has serious injuries to their face. The blast happened near the centre of Mindat Town, a busy spot where lots of locals often pass through.”

Mindat Town is currently under the control of resistance forces who warned residents of the town and surrounding areas not to touch or handle any unexploded ordnance or landmines they come across in the town or its surrounding areas. They also advised locals to only use routes that have been confirmed as cleared of landmines.

Another Mindat Town resident said: “But the fact that unexploded landmines are still on public roads is a serious problem. Sometimes, blasts happen even in areas that were supposed to have been cleared. Also, items like 40 mm mortar rounds are still being found around Mindat Town. It’s really important for people not to touch anything suspicious and to stay alert for unexploded ordnance, especially when collecting firewood in the forest.”

On 17 April 2025, the Mindat Township Interim Administration announced that approximately 2,000 landmines of various types left by the junta in Mindat Town had been cleared.

The Chin Brotherhood Alliance, including the Mindat Chinland Defence Force (CDF) took control of Mindat Town on 21 December 2024. Since then, there have been at least five incidents of locals stepping on landmines in Mindat Town and nearby areas, though no deaths have been reported.
