Military Junta Intensifies Attacks on Kyaikto and Bilin with Mortar Shells, Drone Strikes, and Airstrikes

The military junta launched mortar shell attacks, drone strikes, and airstrikes on Kyaikto and Bilin Townships in Mon State, causing injuries to a resident and damaging multiple homes and businesses, according to a statement from the Karen National Union (KNU).

On January 19, around noon, the junta’s Artillery Battalion 310th fired an 81 mm mortar shell, which exploded in Khaywea Village.

While no casualties were reported, the explosion caused severe damage to a nearby electricity pole, sparking fires that spread to nearby huts and caused a forest fire.

On that day, at approximately 3:00 PM, the junta carried out a drone strike, dropping explosives that destroyed a general store in Sitkwin Village.

On January 18, around noon, approximately 30 junta soldiers launched an attack using drones along the Asia Road between Hngetpyawtaw and Takaychaunghpyar villages in Kyaikto Township.

The drone strike targeted the entrance road to Karawayseik Village and the Asia Highway, causing an explosion in front of U Shwe’s house. U Shwe sustained injuries, and both his home and shop were severely damaged.

On January 17, around 8 PM, the junta deployed jet aircraft to drop two bombs on Kasefoe Village in Bilin Township. One bomb struck and destroyed a house, causing significant damage in the area.
