The military junta carried out another airstrike on the Mawchi area in Hpasawng Township, Karenni State, and there are some civilian casualties, according to local residents.

At around 9 a.m. today, November 21, fighter jets dropped bombs three times on three locations in the Mawchi area, a local man told Kantarawaddy Times.

“The airstrike happened around 9:30 this morning. It was foggy. They came and bombed the side where we live. One bomb was dropped there. They also bombed other areas. Altogether, about four bombs were dropped,” the local man said.

The bombing killed five men, and the Kantarawaddy Times is still trying to confirm the ages and details of other injuries.

“What we know so far is that five people were killed. There are injured people too, but we don’t know the exact number yet. The five who died are all men. Among the injured, there are also elderly women,” said a representative from Jobs for Kayah, an organization assisting IDPs.

The areas targeted by the airstrikes were not sites of any clashes but were instead civilian areas.

In August, the military junta also carried out three airstrikes in the Mawchi area despite there being no active fighting, killing over 30 civilians. According to Kantarawaddy Times records, the junta has conducted 18 airstrikes on the Mawchi in 2025 alone.
