Military imposes 6am to 6pm curfew on Ye Township

According to Section 144, the military council issued a curfew from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Ye Township, Mon State.

Effective February 8th, new restrictions are in place, this includes no gatherings of more than 5 people, and no one is permitted to carry any weapons, including knives or daggers. Non-compliance with these orders will be responded with force by the military.  Additional restrictions are expected.

This latest curfew adds another hardship on the lives and livelihoods for the people in Ye Township.

“ We have to open the shop in the evening because of the curfew. Where will our income come from? It is not possible to get any other work and we have very little capital. It’s not easy …. This will affect the family’s livelihood,”  said one resident.

Military council forces often patrol the area at night, so it is difficult for rubber scrapers to travel to the plantations for work.

“ We can’t even go anymore. Even if we are scraping rubber in our own yard if it is not appropriate, if their security patrol car happens to be near our yard, they will see us and we fear arrest. You could be arrested at any time,” said another resident.

There have been frequent armed clashes between the military council forces and the People’ s Defense Forces.  There have also been assassinations of military group supporters and department officials that are under the military council
