Military Council-aligned militia leaders killed during PDF ambush in Tanintharyi Region

People’s Defense Forces (PDF) have announced that they attacked a village-level militia group under the Military Council in Bokpyin Township Tanintharyi Region, killing two militia leaders and seizing weapons and ammunition.

The resistance group from the Tanintharyi Region reported that a village-level militia group was ambushed by PDF fighters, resulting in the death of both the group’s leader and second-in-command. They also seized weapons and ammunition from the militia group during the attack.

One PDF fighter who participated in the raid said, “We carried out an assault on a militia group located in a village on a small island in the sea. The fishing trawlers we used to reach the village made the task quite challenging. We managed to pressure the lower-ranking members of the militia to surrender, and we eventually released them.”

According to a PDF statement, the raid occurred in Wa Kyun village, located in Mathay village tract, Karaturi area of Bokpyin Township at around 2:00 AM on March 27th. The operation was jointly conducted by PDF members from Bokpyin and Kawthaung townships.

The PDF fighters were able to seize several weapons, including 4 AK-47 rifles, a M-16 rifle, 16 different types of cartridges, 4 grenades, 170 M-16 bullets, 355 AK-47 bullets, a set of equipment, 2 handcuffs, 2 swords, and some mobile phones.

Fortunately, the PDF fighters successfully retreated without any casualties after the raid.

Wa Kyun, a fishing village with approximately 250 houses, also hosts an ice factory and is a frequent docking point for fishing boats from neighboring hamlets. According to locals, the Military Council is rapidly forming militia groups and conducting military training in many villages in Bokpyin Township.

After the coup the Military Council announced the upgrade of Bokpyin Township from a township level, to a district level.
