At least 10 young men abducted for conscription in Kale Town in one day

On December 14, at least 10 young pedestrians were abducted by junta troops for conscription in Kale Town, Sagaing Region.

These young men were abducted by junta troops in at least three different parts of the town, according to a town resident.

“Starting at around 4:00 pm yesterday, junta troops began abducting people for conscription. Three young men were taken in Tahan Ward, while four and three others were abducted in Seikkanthar and Shwe Kyaung Taw wards, respectively,” he told Chin World.

In Kale Town, soldiers and junta-aligned Pyusawhti militia members have a history of conducting nighttime raids on homes where young people live to abduct them. According to locals, they also occasionally seize pedestrians, as in the recent case.

The junta announced the enforcement of the conscription law on February 10, 2024. Since then, it has been abducting young men in batches.

The junta is currently recruiting conscripts for Batch 21, with reports of forced abductions emerging from regions and states across Myanmar.
