Lahu Democratic Union Explores Future Peace Process Participation at Central Committee Meeting

Leaders of the Lahu Democratic Union (LDU) have said that they discussed regional development issues and future meetings with the Lahu public during their central committee meeting this week.

Held in Chiang Mai, Thailand on January 15 and 16, the central committee explored the current peace process—and women’s participation in it—and preparations to hold the fourth session of the Union Peace Conference. They also need to select representatives to attend the talks.

Central committee members will send LDU representatives to commemorate Union Day on February 12, an event organized by the government.

The LDU is signatory to the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement with the Burmese government and military. They signed the NCA on February 13, 2018, and attended the third round of the Union Peace Conference in July of that same year, along with representatives of other signatory ethnic armed groups.
