Local parliamentarians said they found at the end of July that a fish crushing factory near Pin Lal Nar village in Kin Myauk village tract of Kyauk Phyu Township was planning to run the factory on coal.
Residents and parliamentarians subsequently complained about the type of fuel because the factory can damage the natural environment.
In response to the complaints, U Than Htut Oo, the administrative officer for Kyauk Phyu Township, said the authorities went and inspected the factory on August 1 and instructed it to only use fuel that the public accepts.
“The factory hasn’t started operations yet. But when it runs, it has to do so according to the law. It has to be environmentally friendly,” he said.
U Phoe San, a member of the Arakan State Hluttaw for Kyauk Phyu, said that when he went to examine the factory, people from the factory told him that the factory will run with coal. He said that he will complain if they use the coal.
“If the factory runs on coal the environment in the surrounding area will be adversely affected so this is why we are complaining. When we spoke to a responsible person from the factory, we discovered that the factory is owned by a Chinese citizen,” he said.
The factory is owned by Daw Yu Yu Nwe and Chinese people are working in it, according to Kyauk Phyu District’s General Administrative Department.
