The Karen National Union/Karen National Liberation Army – Peace Council (KNU/KNLA-PC) said it does not want the peace process to be in a standstill and it will continue to work for peace.

Military commanders from the KNU/KNLA-PC said this during a meeting between the KNU/KNLA-PC’s regulatory committee and military commanders held in Htoe Kaw Koe of Kawkareik Township, Kayin (Karen) State on May 18, according to the KNU/KNLA-PC’s joint secretary Col Saw Kyaw Nyunt.

“We haven’t been able to convene the Peace Conference for a year now. All the leaders don’t want the peace process to be in a standstill. They want it to move forward steadfastly,” he told KIC News.

Officials from the KNU/KNLA – PC said the troops discussed the military code of conduct mentioned in the nationwide ceasefire agreement (NCA) during the meeting.

Col Saw Kyaw Nyunt said the clashes in Hpa-pun area following the Tatmadaw’s road construction project have affected ethnic armed organizations (EAOs) and the KNU/KNLA – PC will carry out its tasks based on the points from the NCA.

Members of the regulatory committee, colonels, and commanders from respective areas attended the 5th quarterly meeting.

Under the leadership of Brig Gen Saw Htay Maung, the KNU/KNLA – PC broke away from the KNU in 2007 and signed a ceasefire with the State Development and Peace Council (SPDC). It is also one of the ten EAOs that have signed the NCA.
