KIA Attack police guarding Hpakant local government building in Kachin State

A policeman was killed, and four others were seriously injured, when the general administration office under the Military Council was attacked by gunfire in the Mhaw Wam neighborhood of Hpakant township, Kachin state.

At around 7:00 AM on December 4th, the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the People’ s Defense Forces (PDF) jointly attacked the office with 40 mm guns, a close person to Hpakant PDF told KNG.

“The office was attacked when it was crowded in the morning. I heard that 5 policemen suffered casualties”,he said. Some parts of the office building were also damaged.

After the incident, the Military Council deployed a strong force and carried out searches and inspections.

Since the coup, there have also been frequent explosions in the Military Council’s departments and offices in Hpakant.
