Kachin Comprehensive University Celebrates Successful Second Graduation Ceremony in Laiza

The vice chancellor of Kachin State Comprehensive University (KSCU), Doctor U Aung Naing, announced that the second graduation ceremony was successfully held in Laiza town in Kachin State, despite the tense military situation.

The graduation ceremony, initially scheduled for March 8, had to be postponed by a week due to escalating military tensions in the region. However despite this obstacle, it was successfully held a week later.

The opening of the university aimed to support students and teachers engaged in the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM), an anti-Junta initiative, and efficiently manage the education sector during the interim.

Doctor U Aung “We chose a day that the elders thought was most suitable for the ceremony. While others fight the Junta with weapons, we fight by utilizing our expertise in education. I was very pleased to see students actively involved in efforts to make the graduation ceremony a success”, he said.

The graduation ceremony took place on March 14, with notable attendees including KSCU's chancellor, Kachin Independence Council (KIC) vice president No. 1 General Gun Maw. Also present were members of the university administration, high-ranking officials of the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO), representatives of the National Unity Government (NUG), and invited guests, as reported on KSCU's Facebook page.

At the graduation ceremony, a total of 139 students received degrees, including 3 medical graduates who passed examinations administered by interim medical university councils, 2 who successfully completed the KSCU-organized Master of Science Examination, 1 master of arts graduate, 3 honors graduates, 6 postgraduate graduates, and 10 bachelor of science graduates, alongside 104 bachelor of arts graduates.

Despite facing numerous obstacles, the relevant officers, teachers, and students actively participated to ensure the success of the graduation ceremony.

"I felt like I had a special moment. I faced various challenges in university, but now I have reached my goals. I want to help others with the skills and expertise I have acquired. I also want to encourage all young people to keep learning, no matter what difficulties they face”, a graduate female student said.

Established on May 31, 2022, through the collaboration of NUG and KIO, KSCU was officially inaugurated on September 12 of the same year.
