In Mogok Town, located near the Shan State border in Mandalay Region, a police station occupied by junta troops was targeted in a drone bombing.
On the morning of January 15, the police station in the eastern part of Mogok Town was hit by a bomb dropped from a drone. Locals estimated there could be casualties, though details remain unclear.
“We heard a huge explosion. Some people said the station got hit by an improvised rocket, while others said it was a bomb dropped from a drone. There could be injuries, but we’re not sure,” a town resident said.
Although there are widespread claims that the People’s Defence Force (PDF) carried out the drone attack, Shan Herald is still investigating to confirm the reports.
Mogok was previously under the control of the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA). However, following an October 2025 meeting in Kunming mediated by the Chinese government, TNLA agreed to relinquish Mogok, as well as Momeik (Mongmit) Town in Shan State in exchange for a ceasefire.
Following that agreement, beginning November 29, junta troops, believed to number in the thousands, re-entered Mogok and established a garrison. The PDF and other resistance groups that had initially captured the town alongside TNLA were also forced to withdraw after the junta’s return.
Despite this, the PDF, under the command of the Ministry of Defence of the resistance-run National Unity Government (NUG), established the Mogok-Momeik Region Operation Command on November 9. Since then, frequent clashes with junta troops have continued.
Between January 10 and 12, fierce fighting erupted across mountainous areas between Mogok and Momeik, particularly in Htonehpo, Hwayleik, and Konemakan villages, as junta forces and PDF units engaged in combat. Afterward, junta troops based in Mogok continued shelling the combat zones with artillery.
Earlier, on the morning of January 4, artillery shells struck a monastery and a high school in the eastern part of Mogok Town, killing a monk and a woman.
