Saung OO Man — The deliberate bombing over a prison camp in Ann township of Rakhine State is a real act of cruelty, claimed former deputy commander of the prison camp brigadier general Thaung Htun.
In an interview with ONN news agency, he added that junta forces used eight aircraft to target the camp.
Earlier, the junta soldiers carried out attacks on 6 and 8 March. There was no reason to suspect it was a prison camp, because the security tents and people in prison uniforms were available in the premises, he added.
“I am sure that they could realize it was a prison camp as the building defines it. The people in prison uniforms were entering and leaving the camp. It’s truly cruel to deliberately bomb such a cam,” said Thaung Htun.
The Arakan Army stated recently that 116 prisoners of war (PoW) were killed and 32 injured in the three-and-a-half-hour bombing on 8 March by four fighter jets and four Y-12 aircraft.
The victims include senior military captive officials and also civilians serving sentences.
The identities of some victims became difficult as their body parts were missing. The actual number of casualties is yet to be ascertained. It was the largest number of PoW casualties engineered by the military commission since the AA took over the western command.
The military regime previously targeted the civilians and public places. The military commission also bombed many prison camps, where the prisoners of war were kept in Maungdaw and Kyauktaw localities.
