Junta trying to retake UkriHta army base in Karen State's Myawaddy

On 29 June junta forces launched attacks on UkriHta army base in Karen State's Myawaddy District after it was captured by a combined force led by the Karen National Union (KNU) on 26 June.

A joint force of the Karen National Union (KNU) the Karen National Defence Organisation (KNDO) and local PDFs attacked and occupied the UkriHta Military Council’s camp in Wale Myaing Township, in an area of Karen State's Myawaddy District controlled by KNU Brigade 6, on the morning of 26 June.

During fighting at the camp, between 26 and 29 June, eight members of the KNU joint force and more than 20 junta soldiers died.

On 29 June the junta air force carried out more than 20 airstrikes against UkriHta camp.

The KNDO believes that the junta will soon send in ground troops. A KNDO soldier said: 'The military Council is reinforcing its forces with Border Guard Force (BGF) and DKBA soldiers. I think they are planning to take back Ukrihta Camp. Currently, they are carrying out clearance operations in Wale Myaing.'
