Junta Troops Retreat from Var Military Base in Chin State

Salai Kyon Nga, the spokesperson for the Chin National Defense Force (CNDF), has confirmed the withdrawal of Military Council troops from the Var military base situated in Falam Township, Chin State. This strategic base is fortified and strategically positioned along the Kalay-Falam Road.

"The troops from Var base pulled back today and joined the ones in downtown Falam. It seems they feel unsafe now. The Chin National Army (CNA) captured Rihkhawdar recently, so no surprise they're panicking. I think they're low on manpower too. They called back Var base troops, worried Falam could be next”, he told Khonumthung News.

Var base sits approximately 5 miles from Falam. On November 15th, the troops of the Military Council vacated the base and integrated with the 268th Light Infantry Battalion stationed in Falam.

On April 10th, CNDF raided Var base, resulting in 11 Military Council soldiers killed, 14 captured alive, and the confiscation of a substantial quantity of weapons, as per CNDF's announcement.

CNDF fighters also seized the Tibual military outpost between Rihkhawdar and Falam on the morning of November 15th, setting the outpost ablaze. CNDF spokesperson added

that several Military Council soldiers lost their lives in the raid, prompting the remaining troops to flee urgently for their safety.

On November 13th, Rihkhawdar, situated on the India-Myanmar border and holding strategic importance for both military and trade, fell under the control of the Chinland Defence joint forces led by CNF/CNA.

According to Salai Htet Ni, the spokesperson for CNA, Chin State's first capture of a town e occurred around two weeks after resistance forces in different areas of Myanmar, particularly in Shan, Kachin, Kayah (Karenni), Rakhine states, and Sagaing Region, initiated town-capturing battles against the Junta.
