The Junta sealed off 8 houses in an act of collective punishment in Ingapu township after suspects had already fled. Their relatives have all lost their homes

According to residents, soldiers and police under the military council have sealed off eight houses in Ingapu township.

Soldiers and police under the Military Council have sealed off one house from Ward No. 1 of Ingapu Township, Ayeyarwady Region and seven houses from five different villages, bringing the total number of sealed houses to eight.

According to residents, the sealed houses belong to people who fled their homes out of fear of being arrested by the Military Council. "Some have been accused of being PDFs. Some have been accused of helping and supporting PDFs, and their houses have been sealed off, because they  have fled in fear of being arrested,” said a person close to the administration.

“ Because they didn’t catch the people they were trying to capture ,they made the rest of the family homeless. It’s a tactic used to instill fear in people, warning them that if one person does something, the rest will suffer the consequences,” said a 40-year-old woman from Ward No. 1.

As per some residents on March 6, the family members residing in the eight houses were immediately forced to evacuate, and the properties were subsequently sealed.

On the same day, the homes of Ko Kyi Moe and Ko Lin Htet San in Yoelay Wa Village, Ko Thar Aye in Yaekyaw Village, and Ko Bo Bo Zin in Chauk Ywar Village were also reportedly sealed off.

On December 30, 2022, the Military Council also sealed off the homes of 6 residents of Kyangin township who were fleeing without being arrested by the soldiers and policemen under the Military Council.
