The junta retook Falam Town in Chin State, previously controlled by resistance forces, following a major offensive carried out with overwhelming force.
After extensive ground offensives and heavy air assaults, the junta regained full control of Falam Town at 3:00 a.m. on April 25, according to resistance forces.
“After recapturing Surbung Airport and the hilltop military base, the regime now controls the entire town. Skirmishes are still ongoing around the area, but the junta has already taken full control of Falam,” said Nai John Kim, spokesperson for the Chinland Council-run Government of Chinland.
Images of junta troops posing for group photos in parts of Falam Town were also shared on Telegram by junta-aligned propaganda channels on April 25.
To recapture Falam Town, the junta launched an offensive on April 19, advancing in two columns—one moving from the Var Bridge and the other targeting Surbung Airport and nearby areas. It also carried out extensive airstrikes against resistance forces.
The Chin Brotherhood (CB) Alliance captured Falam Town on April 7, 2025, and it had since been under the control of the Chin National Organisation/Chin National Defence Force (CNO/CNDF).
The junta then launched an operation to retake Falam on October 29, 2025. One column advanced toward the town along the Kale–Waibula Road, while another moved in via the Kale–Taingen Road.
According to resistance sources, the two columns later secured positions in villages about 15 miles from Falam before launching a full-scale offensive from Taingen in February 2026.
