A junta convoy transporting personnel and staff to help re-establish administrative control in the recently recaptured town of Falam in Chin State was ambushed en route, killing at least five people, including two officers.
The convoy, traveling from Kale town in neighboring Sagaing Region to Falam, was ambushed on May 6 along the Kale-Taingen (Siyim) Road as it entered Chin State, according to the Chinland Defense Force–Civic Defense Militia Siyin (CDF-CDM Siyin).
During the ambush, five junta troops, including a captain and a lieutenant, were killed, while resistance forces seized several small arms and a military truck.
The Chin resistance coalition had controlled Falam for about a year before the junta launched a major offensive with large troop deployments, forcing resistance fighters to withdraw from the town on April 25 and effectively restoring regime control.
About two weeks later, on May 6, more than 100 government employees from Falam who had been temporarily sheltering in Kale returned to the town via the Kale-Taingen Road under the protection of a junta security convoy.
Meanwhile, a group calling itself the Falam Peace Committee has urged residents to avoid hatred and retaliation between those who recently returned and those who remained in Falam. It also called for understanding between employees who opposed the junta and those who chose to continue working under the regime.
