The junta carried out 25 airstrikes over 10 days in the southern Chin State towns of Mindat, Kanpetlet and Matupi, killing two people, including an infant, according to the Chin People’s Union/Chin People’s Army (CPU/CPA). The attacks took place between May 13 and May 22 in the three CPU/CPA-controlled towns.
Mindat was hit by airstrikes once on May 13 at around 3:30 p.m., twice on May 14 at around 3:30 p.m., and once again on May 18 at around 3:30 p.m. Mindat. On May 16 at around 5:30 p.m., Kanpetlet town was also struck in an airstrike.
Furthermore, the junta conducted two airstrikes on Matupi around 11:00 p.m. on May 19, killing a 4-day-old infant due to shock and vibrations from the blasts.
Other recorded junta airstrikes included two strikes on a school in Mindat at around 4:45 p.m. on May 20, two strikes on Kanpetlet at around 6:00 a.m. on May 21, followed by two further strikes there at around 6:00 p.m. the same day. On May 22, the junta carried out four strikes on Kanpetlet around 2:00 a.m. and another four strikes on Mindat around 2:00 p.m. that afternoon.
As a result of the junta’s 25 airstrikes over 10 days across the three towns, numerous homes, shops, and offices were destroyed, with two people killed and many others injured.
With the junta’s air threat looming, the CPU/CPA is urging the public to avoid crowds, prepare bomb shelters in advance, remain alert to reconnaissance drone activity, and heed airstrike warnings at all times.
CPU/CPD was formed on November 15, 2025, through the merger of four southern Chin State resistance groups: Chinland Defense Force–Mindat (CDF–Mindat), Chinland Defense Force–Kanpetlet (CDF–Kanpetlet), Chinland Defense Force–Matupi (CDF–Matupi), and the Daai Regional Council (DRC), with the aim to lead and bolster regional military and political efforts.
