Junta Burns Down 11 Houses in Mindat Town, Chin State

The junta burned down 11 unoccupied houses in the Western Ward of Mindat Town, in southern Chin State on 14 and 15 September 2024, according to Mindat residents.

On 14 September at about 3:00pm the junta burned down three houses in the Western Ward near the Hlaykaung Road intersection.

Later, during the evening of 14 September the junta burned down five houses just south of the Infantry Battalion (IB) 274 and near to the Hlaykaung Road intersection and three other houses about 200 metres away, in Western Ward.

On 15 September they burned down three houses near the Bayintnaung Road intersection close to the IB 274 base in the Western Ward.

All the houses were unoccupied as their owners had fled fighting in Mindat Town about a year ago.

A Mindat resident said: “On 14 September, there was a fire at the Hlaykaung Road intersection. Yesterday afternoon around 3:00 pm, three houses in the western Ward burned down. Approximately ten houses have been burned down in total. There was no further spread [of the fire] and since it rained yesterday, the fire burned only in scattered areas. All were arson.”
