A junta airstrike on an Arakan Army (AA) medical center for prisoners of war (PoWs) and prison inmates killed about 20 and injured about 15 others.

The medical centre in Shin Village on Ale Phayonkar Island in Pauktaw Township, Arakan (Rakhine) State was hit by eight bombs dropped by two junta jets at 6:50 am and 6:57 am on 8 September 2024.

AA spokesperson U Khaing Thukha told Narinjara that the victims included PoWs receiving medical treatment, convicted criminals and civilians, including healthcare workers and children.

He said: "Those killed included senior junta officers in poor health who were receiving medical treatment, PoWs, some inmates including informants and suspected informants, security officers at the facility, health workers, and nearly 20 civilians, including children, with around 15 others injured.”

He added: "Bombing medical facilities for PoWs and inmates is a pure war crime, and we will respond accordingly.”

Furthermore, on the evening of 7 September, Thandwe Town in Arakan State was also hit by airstrikes that killed a teacher and injured five others, including an Imam.

As the junta intensifies its airstrike in Arakan State and nationwide, the number of civilian casualties, including women and children, continues to rise daily.
