Military council forces carried out an aerial bombing attack on a village in Loi Nan Pha Township, western Demoso, Karenni State, at around 10:00 p.m. yesterday, June 24, according to local residents.

“It was at ten-oh-seven. As soon as it arrived, it dropped the bomb right away. It wasn’t like the usual times it comes over. Normally it flies a bit higher and just passes through, so we’re not that scared. But yesterday the sound seemed lower than usual — we thought something felt different — and while we were still reciting prayers, it dropped the bomb,” said one IDP.

The military council aircraft dropped a bomb once, which struck and exploded on a hilltop. While no one was injured in the attack, the bomb fragments struck IDP shelters and farm plots in the area.

Since the bombing took place in an area with no armed clashes and where civilians live, both IDPs and nearby local residents say they are now living in fear.

“We were really frightened — shaking quite a bit. The children were asleep at the time, so all we could do was wake them up and rush them to the bomb shelter pit. By the time it was dropped, there wasn’t even time to run,” said an IDP living near the village.

This bombing came on the same day, June 24, as a separate drone strike at around 1:00 p.m. in a village in Nanmekhon Township, Demoso, in which military council forces dropped a bomb from a drone that struck and killed two school-age children.
