"We concur in principle to establish a humanitarian corridor for Rakhine," stated Bangladesh’s foreign ministry adviser Md Touhid Hossain, according to the Dhaka Tribune.
He delivered the comments while addressing reporters at the foreign ministry on Sunday.
"As per the UN proposal, Bangladesh has consented in principle to permit a humanitarian corridor to Rakhine. It will serve as a humanitarian pathway. However, certain conditions exist. I will not elaborate further. If the requirements are fulfilled, we will certainly offer help,” he stated.
Touhid remarked that the crisis in Myanmar pertains to the interests of Bangladesh, stating, "A significant number of individuals from Myanmar have sought refuge in our nation, and we wish to return them. We should take all necessary actions to enable their return."
"The entire border is currently under the authority of a non-state entity. In Myanmar, there is a lack of central government authority. Therefore, regarding our interests, we are unable to officially engage with a non-state actor, yet we must remain connected to them," he stated.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who was in Bangladesh from March 13 to 16, 2025, stated that the AA must conduct essential discussions and emphasized that the AA was a reliable organization to interact with.
He also suggested that alternative paths should be identified to enable humanitarian assistance to access Rakhine State via Bangladesh.
On March 12, Fortify Rights called on the Bangladesh government and the AA to establish a cross-border humanitarian corridor to assist the war-affected individuals in Rakhine State.
