IDPs Surge in one Chin Town Surges to Over 10,000 in Three Years Faces Aid Shortages

In Kanpetlet Township, Chin State, over 10,000 locals have been displaced during the three years of the revolution due to the Junta's ground offensives and airstrikes, with minimal aid received in support of the war-displaced people.

On May 13, the Kanpetlet People's Administrative Team (PAT-Kanpetlet) highlighted the   difficulties faced by the local populace, coinciding with the 3rd anniversary of the establishment of the Chinland Defense Force - Kanpetlet (CDF-Kanpetlet).

"There are still no aid organizations that can effectively alleviate the livelihood crisis of the people. The residents of Kanpetlet still rely on themselves to survive. While some NGOs provided a little aid, it was not enough. Many difficulties are unresolved”, an official of PAT-Kanpetlet’s Humanitarian Department said.

The primary needs of Kanpetlet war refugees are basic food items like rice, oil, and salt, with a significant demand for medical assistance also existing.

The official further mentioned that as transportation becomes increasingly difficult upon reaching Moen, the existing difficulties faced by locals are only expected to worsen.

"To offer more aid to displaced individuals, we urge relevant organizations to work closely with local authorities to expedite the process. With schools reopening soon, we are planning to set up a self-reliant education system in Kanpetlet. We also want to invite education-focused organizations to join us”, he added.

Among the 10,000 war refugees, approximately 5000 have sought refuge in Saw Township, with 3000 displaced due to fighting in Kyatwee (Kyindwe) town. Approximately 2000 refugees have sought shelter in orchards, plantations, and small villages and hamlets untouched by the ravages of war.

Throughout the three years of revolution, 11 local civilians were killed by the Junta's ground operations and air raids in Kanpetlet, while 28 comrades from CDF-Kanpetlet made the ultimate sacrifice.

CDF-Kanpetlet and PAT-Kanpetlet also declared their commitment to continue participating in the revolution together, with the political guidance of the Kanpetlet Township Council.
