Govt Servants Forced Out of Apartments in Northern Shan State

Health workers who joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) against the military regime were forced from their government residences in townships across northern Shan State.

The General Administration Department officer for Nawng Kio Township and director of Nawng Kio Public Hospital ordered staff to move out of their apartments located in the town with the same name on Monday, March 15.

According to a health worker, they received verbal orders but not an official letter. Despite being homeless, the employee told SHAN they aren’t backing down and will continue supporting the CDM.

Another employee told SHAN that staff working in remote areas face many difficulties when they’re evicted from their lodgings. “We’ll keep standing for what we want and continue with the CDM because we don’t want a dictator in our country,” the worker said.

Authorities threatened some employees to return to their posts. Two doctors who joined the CDM in Nawng Kio are in hiding, according to health staff.

Health workers in Taunggyi were also forced to leave residences at the Sao San Htun Public Hospital on March 15. A day earlier, security forces arrived in five military vehicles to tell staff on a megaphone that if they refuse to quit the CDM they must leave. The employee told SHAN despite difficulties with moving out of their apartments they’ll continue resisting the regime’s rule.

Health workers at a maternal care hospital in Taunggyi were removed on March 14.

Government servants were also recently forced out of apartments in Namsan, Mangton, Lashio, Hsenwi and Tarmonye townships, all located in northern Shan State.
