A fire broke out in Kon Chan Gone Ward of Zin Kyaik Town, Paung Township, Mon state on the morning of November 10. Eight houses were destroyed and four people died, ‌according to local residents.

The fire started at Daw Than Than Khaing’s residence at around 4:00 a.m. on November 10 and was extinguished at around 5:00 a.m. Due to the fire, eight houses, including Daw Than Than Khaing’s house, were destroyed and four family members of Daw Than Than Khaing, including a child died by fire.

The persons who died were Daw Than Than Khaing, Maung Lin Tun, Daw Khin Si and 6th grade student Mazin Zin Phyo.

“ The fire started from Daw Than Than Khaing's house, the nearby houses were inflamed, and by the time the fire was brought under control, eight houses burned down. Four people died in the house that started the fire, and they believe that the fire was caused by the lighting of a candle by Maung Lin Tun, who is mentally ill,”  said a resident.

Paung township fire brigade, Thadon Township fire brigade, and local social rescue group extinguished the fire in Zin Kyaik village.

Currently, the families whose homes were burnt down have been temporarily relocated to the Zin Kyaik Nyaung Monastery Monastery, according to an official of the Social Relief Organization. According to local residents, there have been two fire disasters this year in Zin Kyaik Town.
