Four Myanmar security force officials killed in bomb attack in Sagaing’s Monywa

Local guerrilla groups announced in a statement on January 11 that they conducted a bomb attack at Tamartan traffic lights in Monywa township, Sagaing Division, killing four junta security force officials on January 10.

"CCTV footage showed them that we were setting off a parcel bomb and thus they approached with a car and checked. While their car was approaching and checking, we detonated it with a remote control," said a member of the Monywa Nightking group.

A police lieutenant colonel who had recently moved to the area was among those killed in the blast.

A member of the Monywa Nightking group said that they were deeply saddened that an innocent child was also injured in the blast and further investigation confirmed that there was no danger to the child’s life.

The operation was conducted by the alliance teams of Monywa the Boys, ACF Monywa, Red Cod Revolution, Monywa Phoenix Warrior, Monywa Ninja and Monywa Nightking, according to the announcement.

A bomb blast also occurred at the Yankin traffic lights in Monywa on the same day and killed a traffic policeman.

In addition, another bomb attack was also conducted near Monya Carlay traffic lights on the same day but no casualties were reported.

A member of the Monywa Nightking group advised the public to follow their statements on social media sites that said to avoid military vehicles passing by and checkpoints and that CCTV must be turned off as the operations are being carried out in an effort to prevent harm to the people.
