Four civilians killed and more than 200 locals flee Sagaing’s Myinmu’s Madura Village

An official from Sagaing District’s, Sagaing Region Medical Team (SDMF) said that four local people were killed and more than 200 villagers had fled after soldiers stormed Madura village in Myinmu Township, Sagaing Region.

On February 3, Villagers in Magyikan and in Nabe Gyu Village in Myinmu Townships were captured and taken into custody after the military council and Pyu Saw Htee killed four people whom they had abducted and forced to work as guides.

“A villager was killed by the military yesterday in Madura village. Along with him, three villagers from Nyaung Pin Wun village were also killed. Now the army is rioting in the village. When they saw people, they beat, arrested and tortured them. The house was set on fire. I took the goods and ran away because I did not dare [stay],” said a resident of Padattaing village in Myinmu Township who had fled to Sagaing.

Locals from Ma Gyi Kan, Madura, Nabaekyuu and Padattaing villages in Myinmu Township, Sagaing Division fled to Sagaing City and other safe places.

A total of 100 men and 136 women were taken care of by local civil defense groups, according to the aid group.

An official from the Sagaing District Medical Team (SDMF) said that this was the first time that so many people had been displaced in Sagaing Region.

"Some have fled in disarray and are in need of toiletries. The weather is still cold and we need blankets and shelter,” said an official from the Sagaing District Medical Team (SDMF).

The Sagaing District Medical Team (SDMF), in collaboration with the Sagaing Township People's Administration and local people are providing rice, food, medical care and assistance to the displaced villagers.

People are still fleeing the area and the number of displaced people due to military actions is likely to rise. According to locals, many troops are conducting clearance operations in villages in Wetlet and Myinmu townships.

Junta soldiers raped and killed a 13-year-old girl and mutilated her body after setting fire to 20 residents in Padattaing village in Myinmu Township, Sagaing Region, on January 31.
