Foods and medicines need for the elderlies in the war refugee camp in Zidam village in Putao

There is a need for food and medicines for the elderly people in the war refugee camp near the entrance of Zidam village in Putao Township.

The elderly people with no income from the families taking refuge in the camp are more in need of help due to the current price hikes, Ko W Khong Khong, a local altruist told Myitkyina News Journal.

“If there is no one in the family who can earn money, it will be very difficult for the elderlies. The main need for the elderly people is food, warm clothes and supplement medicines”, he said.

Currently, in Putao, a bag of the lowest quality type of Chinchel rice is being bought for 45000 kyats.

In addition to foods and medicines, there is a need for warm clothes and blankets because the winter has come, Ko W Khong Khong also said.

“There are very few plants in Zidam. And the area is very large, and the wind is strong. The snow is heavy. It's much cooler there than in the city. Older people can't take the cold too much. That’s why they need warm clothes and blankets”, he added.

The camp was built under the previous government aimed for the people from remote mountain villages like Khrankhu, Khranhtidam, Noryaryan, Inkakha, Dainsa, Hpakantyan. It is located about eight miles away from Putao Airport. Anyone who wants to donate shall contact Ko W Khong Khong (Phone Number – 09 428048253, 09 250138595).
