Five million meth tablets, 70 kilograms of heroin seized in Thai-Myanmar border

The Thai police has shot dead two Thai citizens and seized five million methamphetamine tablets and 70 kilograms of heroin this morning (May 14) while they were being transported from Tachileik District in the eastern Shan State at the Thai-Myanmar border to Thailand.

The seizure was made between Km 98 and 99 on the highway near tambon Wieng of Wieng Pa Pao District in Chiang Rai District in northern Thailand at 1:20 am on May 14.

The drug traffickers covered the drugs with vegetables on the truck and exchanged fire with the Thai narcotic suppression team after they were asked to halt their truck, according to a Thai military official.

The Thai military official confirmed that the drug traffickers started shooting when the police told them to halt their vehicle due to suspicion and both of them died.

He added that five million amphetamine tablets and around 70 kilograms of 199 heroin bars have been seized.

According to news reports by Thai media, the drugs were seized while it was taken from a Chinese man living in Tachileik Township in Myanmar and transported to Thailand.

The drug traffickers were Thai-Chinese and were around the age of 31 and 27. Two guns and a truck for transporting the drugs were seized together with the drugs.
